Thanks to everyone who came along yesterday, it was a lovely day and great to meet some new faces.
As usual we got lots of work done, splitting up into two groups to clear and burn though all the piles of rhododendron from last year. We spent most of the day in the new ‘arena’ area in the middle of the site, also clearing bracken and having a general tidy up. Impressively nearly all the piles were shifted!
After a delicious coconut curry we set back to work at a relaxed pace, using the new spaces to create some wildlife habitat in the shape of log stacks for insects and small mammals. We also got to roast chestnuts on the fire embers at the end of the day, always a treat.
Coming up this Saturday we have our autumn Open Day, a chance to show off the hard work we have done throughout the year and invite people to join us for the day exploring the arboretum. Details are below if you’d like to come along. Also, if anyone’s up for coming and helping with the set-up that would be most welcome!
Our next volunteer day is on the 19th of November, so hopefully see you then!
