September volunteer day

Today was a lovely day to be in the woods. We happily soaked up the late summer sun, working away at a corner of the arboretum that was getting rather overgrown.

The main focus of the day was rescuing an ancient oak tree from a sea of brambles. Once we had carved out a pathway to it we could then give it a clear space to continue growing in, hopefully for many years to come.

We also freed up an area around one of the giant redwoods, and had a first attempt at trimming back the laurel that has been slowly taking over.

Thanks to everyone who came along, for all the energy and good company.

The next volunteer day is on the 16th of October, followed by Chestnut Day – an open day on the 23rd of October, more details coming soon!
