April 2023 Visitor Day – Bluebells
April 15 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Free – £22.00
Join us on 15th April for a self-guided walk through the tranquil Dell of Tortworth Arboretum. This month we’re celebrating bluebells.
Discover this enchanting place and our stunning collection of exotic and veteran trees! We invite you to enjoy the peace, wander through a grove of redwoods, follow a map of natural trails or go off grid and create your own, discover an ancient arena, explore fallen trees masquerading as climbing frames, swing in a hammock, befriend three friendly and inquisitive goats, wander over beautiful bridges over babbling brooks, enjoy the wildlife and much more. Once you’ve finished your walk, or if you need a brief break just follow the enticing smell of woodsmoke back to the Round House where a warm beverage awaits you.
Connect with yourself, connect with your loved ones, connect with nature. Trees are natures umbrellas, so we’ll be there come rain or shine!

Please note:
Bluebells appear at Tortworth between the end of March and middle of May. This year we’ve noticed most spring growth is a little slower to wake than in some other years, so whilst we’re very hopeful to see bluebells by April 15th, mother nature will not be rushed!
These delicate, native flowers are slow to recover from damage (like trampling), as well as slow to grow and spread, as such it is a protected species. You can learn more about bluebells in our blog!
Tortworth is a restoration project in progress, and the number of bluebells which appear here is testament to our success! We are working hard with volunteers to restore, replant and maintain the arboretum following years of abandonment. We have created paths and cleared around trees so they can flourish and be enjoyed, and are improving labelling and signage. It’s still wild in places, and we plan to keep it that way because it’s part of what makes this place unique. Moreover, it’s also great for wildlife.
