Bundle up and explore the stark beauty of Tortworth as we look at identifying our trees this winter.
Without their distinctive leaves, you could be forgiven for thinking that trees can all look the same in winter. But look a little closer, and you’ll find there are key characteristics to help you recognise each species, even after they’ve disrobed for winter.
This informative walk will begin in our handcrafted Round House, with an introduction to the characteristics used when identifying trees in winter.
We will then explore the arboretum on a leisurely paced walk led by our expert Collections Manager identifying trees through their bark and buds.

We’ll finish back at the Round House fire so you can warm your cockles with a hot beverage before heading home to share your new found knowledge with friends and family!

Planning your visit:
- Due to the natural pathways the site is not suitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility issues, and only suitable for off-road buggies
- With this in mind most of our pathways can be slippery and muddy at times. Please wear appropriate footwear
- We encourage car sharing as there is limited parking on our lane
- We have a compost loo on-site
- There is no running water or electricity here
- Please take all your rubbish with you
- Well behaved dogs welcome on leads
- This event will last between an hour and a half to two hours
