Go Wild – Wild Women Project
Since June 2015, Go Wild has been running the Wild Women project, taking women who are in recovery from alcohol misuse into the woods for one day a week to help build confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing.
The project is the first of its kind, run by women for women. It offers our women the opportunity to step outside of their day-to-day lives and spend some time in a safe space learning new skills.
As part of the Wild Women project our ladies learn woodland skills such as firelighting, outdoor cooking, plant, wildlife and birdsong identification, crafts and tool use. This is all taught in such a way so as to improve confidence. Ladies who are already attending say that it gives them something to look forward to each week.
All the activities are non-compulsory – we recognise the value of a good cup of tea and a chat! All we ask is our women come with a positive attitude and allow those who are doing activities to do so with encouragement and positivity.
We meet in central Bristol every Friday during term time and travel together to Tortworth Arboretum. If you would like to know more about the project we have been featured on BBC Points West, Woodlands TV and in the Bristol Post.
If you are a woman who would like to join our programme then please download our information leaflet or email Jackie at wildwomen@gowildeducation.co.uk.
