July Volunteer Day

A massive thank you to everyone that braved the heat yesterday – it was a nice day to be in the shade of the trees!

We took the day at a gentle pace, making sure to drink lots and take plenty of rest breaks. In the morning we split into two teams – one sawing and transporting firewood from a fallen beech tree, tucked under the shade of our cherry laurel trees. The other team scythed a large area underneath our giant redwoods.

Lunch was a chance to refuel and eat some appropriately cold pasta salad. After which we headed out for some more firewood collection and to give some water to our recent plantings of the last few years –  some very thirsty young trees!

We also took the opportunity to have a stroll around the site and see if we could identify any butterflies and bugs, of which we found plenty.

See you in the woods again soon!
