SUMMARY:Summer Season at Tortworth Aboretum
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a self-guided walk through the tranquil Dell of Tortworth Arboretum. The summer month are a luscious time to visit as the arboretum reaches full leaf.\nWe invite you to enjoy the peace of this place\, follow a map of marked trails or go off grid and create your own. \nThis ancient woodland was once overrun by bramble and bracken\, and since 2014 has been carefully restored by a dedicated team of volunteers. They have uncovered an arena and steps once used by donkeys to transport produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house\, plus a stunning collection of over 600\, native\, exotic and veteran trees. As the ground was cleared we were rewarded with carpets of seasonal flowers\, including snowdrops and bluebells. Work now focuses on replanting and maintaining the arboretum. The team have created paths and cleared around trees and plants so they can flourish and be enjoyed\, and are improving labelling and signage. It’s still wild in places\, and we plan to keep it that way because it’s part of what makes this place unique. Moreover\, it’s also great for wildlife. \nOnce you’ve finished your walk\, or if you need a brief break just follow the enticing smell of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse where a warm beverage awaits you. \nConnect with yourself\, connect with your loved ones\, connect with nature. \nTickets and information \nOur 2026 visitor days are supported by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant. Tickets are now available on a sliding scale donation basis. \nHere’s how we see each suggested donation:\n• Free ticket – for anyone for whom any payment would cause genuine hardship. This is for people struggling with everyday costs such as food\, rent\, bills\, or transport.\n• £5 for individuals who can meet daily costs but contributing a small amount would be a noticeable sacrifice. This is suitable for people with limited disposable income or who occasionally need to plan carefully to cover essentials.\n• £8 for people comfortably meeting daily costs with some disposable income. Paying this amount might require minor sacrifices\, but it is manageable and allows you to support the arboretum fairly.\n• £10 for those with savings\, stable income\, or additional financial resources. SUMMARY:Walk and Talk - Bats
DESCRIPTION:Join us in September to hunt for bats on a unique guided night walk through the arboretum.\nThis informative walk will begin in our handcrafted roundhouse as your guides offer introduction to the characteristics of the different bat species who make their home here. \nYou will then explore the arboretum on a leisurely paced walk\, armed with bat detectors so you can ‘hear’ and track any bat activity.  By September bats have finished raising their young and are starting to think about mating. Many of our bat species also start travelling to swarming sites (areas where lots of bats from a wide meet up to mate) at this time of year\, making it a great time to head outside in search of them! \nAfter the walk we will gather around the fire for hot beverages before departing. \nThere are limited numbers available\, so please do book early to avoid disappointment! \n\nKnowledge required: \nPerfect for beginners! \nGroup size: \n15 maximum. \nMinimum age: \nWe think this event might be most suited for those age 10+. Since 2014 it has been carefully restored by dedicated volunteers\, revealing hidden features such as an old arena and donkey steps once used to move produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house\, alongside a remarkable collection of over 600 native\, exotic and veteran trees. \nWhen you are ready for a rest\, follow the scent of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse for a warm drink and a welcome pause. \nConnect with yourself\, connect with your loved ones\, connect with nature. \nTickets and information \nOur 2026 visitor days are supported in part by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant\, allowing us to offer entry on a sliding scale donation basis. \nSuggested donation tiers:\n• Free ticket: for those for whom any payment would cause genuine hardship\, including difficulty affording essentials such as food and bills. This ticket is also for anyone under the age of 17\n• £5: for those managing daily costs\, where a larger contribution would require budgeting\n• £8: for those who can contribute comfortably with minor adjustments to their monthly spend (for example forgoing a coffee elsewhere)\n• £10: for those with stable income or savings\, helping to sustain restoration work and support access for others \nYou are welcome to mix tiers within group bookings so each person can give according to their circumstances.
