SUMMARY:Autumn Equinox Seasonal Day
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a self-guided walk through the peaceful Dell at Tortworth Arboretum this end of summer seasonal day. Watch the landscape shift as late summer softens into early autumn\, with hints of colour beginning to emerge across the forest. \nTake your time exploring using a marked trail map\, or wander freely and follow your own path. This ancient woodland was once choked by bramble\, bracken and rhododendron. Since 2014 it has been carefully restored by dedicated volunteers\, revealing hidden features such as an old arena and donkey steps once used to move produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house\, alongside a remarkable collection of over 600 native\, exotic and veteran trees. \nWhen you are ready for a rest\, follow the scent of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse for a warm drink and a welcome pause. \nConnect with yourself\, connect with your loved ones\, connect with nature. \nTickets and information \nOur 2026 visitor days are supported in part by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant\, allowing us to offer entry on a sliding scale donation basis. \nSuggested donation tiers:\n• Free ticket: for those for whom any payment would cause genuine hardship\, including difficulty affording essentials such as food and bills. This ticket is also for anyone under the age of 17\n• £5: for those managing daily costs\, where a larger contribution would require budgeting\n• £8: for those who can contribute comfortably with minor adjustments to their monthly spend (for example forgoing a coffee elsewhere)\n• £10: for those with stable income or savings\, helping to sustain restoration work and support access for others \nYou are welcome to mix tiers within group bookings so each person can give according to their circumstances. For example\, a family may choose a mix of paid and free tickets depending on age and situation. \nYour donation really does matter. It is what keeps the arboretum open and cared for. Every path maintained\, every tree protected\, every tool\, sign\, trained staff member and insurance cost is covered through this support. The woodland may feel natural and effortless when you are here\, but the work behind it is continuous\, skilled\, and only possible because people choose to contribute. \nRead more about planning your visit.\nWant to hear about future events? Sign up to our mailing list\nLast entry one hour before closing

SUMMARY:Walk and Talk - Bats
DESCRIPTION:Join us in September to hunt for bats on a unique guided night walk through the arboretum.\nThis informative walk will begin in our handcrafted roundhouse as your guides offer introduction to the characteristics of the different bat species who make their home here. \nYou will then explore the arboretum on a leisurely paced walk\, armed with bat detectors so you can ‘hear’ and track any bat activity.  By September bats have finished raising their young and are starting to think about mating. Many of our bat species also start travelling to swarming sites (areas where lots of bats from a wide meet up to mate) at this time of year\, making it a great time to head outside in search of them! \nAfter the walk we will gather around the fire for hot beverages before departing. \nThere are limited numbers available\, so please do book early to avoid disappointment! \n\nKnowledge required: \nPerfect for beginners! \nGroup size: \n15 maximum. \nMinimum age: \nWe think this event might be most suited for those age 10+. However you know your child best\, if you think they’re able to be calm and quiet during the walk then they’re welcome to join at any age. \nOther information: \nFriends of Tortworth welcome to book the concessionary tickets. Find out more here. \nRead more about planning your visit here \nWant to be the first to hear about ticket releases and new events?  Sign up to our mailing list.

SUMMARY:Summer holidays at Tortworth Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a self-guided summer walk through the Dell at Tortworth Arboretum. Summer is a wonderful time to visit\, with the arboretum in full leaf and the woodland buzzing with life. \nPerfect for families during the summer holidays\, visitors can explore marked woodland trails\, pick up child-friendly activity maps\, and try our nature rubbing trails. Whether you follow a route or head off on your own adventure\, there’s plenty to discover among the native\, exotic and veteran trees. \nSince 2014\, volunteers have been carefully restoring this ancient woodland\, uncovering historic features\, creating paths\, and helping wildlife thrive while keeping the arboretum beautifully wild in places. \nAfter your walk\, follow the smell of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse for a warm drink and a rest. \nGet outside\, explore nature\, and reconnect this summer. \nTickets and information \nOur 2026 visitor days are supported by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant. Tickets are now available on a sliding scale donation basis. \nIf you are booking multiple tickets\, you can mix and match tiers to suit each person’s circumstances\, so a family or group can attend comfortably without anyone facing hardship. For further information on each of the tiers to help you decide\, please see this page. \nBy making a donation of any amount\, you support both the ongoing restoration of the arboretum and our woodland wellbeing programme\, which helps people struggling with their mental health. Projects like ours cannot continue without ongoing financial support\, and every contribution genuinely makes a difference\, helping us care for the woodland while keeping it accessible to those who otherwise could not afford to visit. If each visiting group is able to make even a small donation\, it has a real impact on the future of the arboretum and the community projects based here. Thank you for your generosity and support. \n\nRead more about planning your visit.\nWant to hear about future events? Sign up to our mailing list\nLast entry one hour before closing

SUMMARY:Summer Season at Tortworth Aboretum
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a self-guided walk through the tranquil Dell of Tortworth Arboretum. The summer month are a luscious time to visit as the arboretum reaches full leaf.\nWe invite you to enjoy the peace of this place\, follow a map of marked trails or go off grid and create your own. \nThis ancient woodland was once overrun by bramble and bracken\, and since 2014 has been carefully restored by a dedicated team of volunteers. They have uncovered an arena and steps once used by donkeys to transport produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house\, plus a stunning collection of over 600\, native\, exotic and veteran trees. As the ground was cleared we were rewarded with carpets of seasonal flowers\, including snowdrops and bluebells. Work now focuses on replanting and maintaining the arboretum. The team have created paths and cleared around trees and plants so they can flourish and be enjoyed\, and are improving labelling and signage. It’s still wild in places\, and we plan to keep it that way because it’s part of what makes this place unique. Moreover\, it’s also great for wildlife. \nOnce you’ve finished your walk\, or if you need a brief break just follow the enticing smell of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse where a warm beverage awaits you. \nConnect with yourself\, connect with your loved ones\, connect with nature. \nTickets and information \nOur 2026 visitor days are supported by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant. Tickets are now available on a sliding scale donation basis. \nHere’s how we see each suggested donation:\n• Free ticket – for anyone for whom any payment would cause genuine hardship. This is for people struggling with everyday costs such as food\, rent\, bills\, or transport.\n• £5 for individuals who can meet daily costs but contributing a small amount would be a noticeable sacrifice. This is suitable for people with limited disposable income or who occasionally need to plan carefully to cover essentials.\n• £8 for people comfortably meeting daily costs with some disposable income. Paying this amount might require minor sacrifices\, but it is manageable and allows you to support the arboretum fairly.\n• £10 for those with savings\, stable income\, or additional financial resources. Choosing this tier is a way to actively support the restoration and wellbeing programme and help subsidise access for others. \nIf you are booking multiple tickets\, you can mix and match tiers to suit each person’s circumstances\, so a family or group can attend comfortably without anyone facing hardship. SUMMARY:Bluebell Season at Tortworth Arboretum - cancelled
DESCRIPTION:A mild winter has brought the bluebells on a little too enthusiastically this year\, and we believe by the May bank holiday they will be past their best. Rather than invite you to admire what will essentially be a rather tired woodland floor\, we think it is only fair to cancel and hope for better coordination with the seasons in 2027. \nThis is one of our favourite times of year at the arboretum\, so we are genuinely disappointed that nature has got the better of our timing this time round. \nIf you are able to join us on Saturday 25th April instead we would love to see you whilst the bluebells are still in bloom.

SUMMARY:Bluebell Season at Tortworth Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Spring transforms the arboretum into the landscape into a sea of vibrant blue and purple hues  as bluebells appear\, nestled underneath spectacular trees from around the globe. \nDid you know that bluebells are associated with ancient woodland? The abundance of bluebells at Tortworth Forest Centre is an indication that this woodland has been around for centuries. The land\, once overtaken by bramble and bracken\, has been carefully restored since 2014 by a dedicated team of volunteers. Their efforts have uncovered an old arena and steps once used by donkeys to transport produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house\, as well as a stunning collection of over 600 native\, exotic\, and veteran trees. \nThe work now focuses on replanting and maintenance. Volunteers have created pathways\, cleared around trees and plants to help them thrive\, and improved labelling and signage. Some areas remain delightfully wild\, a feature we aim to preserve as it’s part of the arboretum’s unique charm and benefits local wildlife. \nAfter your walk\, or whenever you need a break\, follow the inviting scent of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse\, where a warm drink awaits. \nTickets and information \nOur 2026 visitor days are supported by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant. Tickets are now available on a sliding scale donation basis. \nHere’s how we see each suggested donation:\n• Free ticket – for those for whom any payment would cause genuine hardship. SUMMARY:Walk and Talk - Foraging

SUMMARY:Snowdrop season at Tortworth Arboretum (Dog free day)
DESCRIPTION:Discover Snowdrop season at Tortworth Arboretum \nJoin us for a self-guided walk through the serene Dell of Tortworth Arboretum. We’re celebrating the first signs of spring and beautiful snowdrops. If you have a four legged friend please join us on 24th January instead. This is for people struggling with everyday costs such as food\, rent\, bills\, or transport.\n• £5 for those who can meet daily costs but contributing a small amount would be a noticeable sacrifice. This is suitable for people with limited disposable income or who occasionally need to plan carefully to cover essentials.\n• £8 for those comfortably meeting daily costs with some disposable income. For further information on each of the tiers to help you decide\, please see this page. \nBy making a donation of any amount you support the arboretum restoration and our woodland wellbeing programme which helps people struggling with their mental health. Thank you for your generosity. \n  \n \n\nRead more about planning your visit.\nWant to hear about future events? Sign up to our mailing list\nLast entry one hour before closing\n\nAbout the arboretum \nTortworth Forest Centre and arboretum is a hidden gem in South Gloucestershire\, home to over 600 native\, exotic and veteran trees. Once overgrown and inaccessible\, it has been lovingly restored by hundreds of volunteers since 2014. As the ground was cleared\, we were rewarded with carpets of seasonal blooms\, including snowdrops and bluebells. Today\, you’ll find meandering paths\, peaceful glades and glimpses of the past; from stone steps once used by donkeys to the remnants of an old arena. Some areas remain delightfully wild\, a feature we aim to preserve as it’s part of the arboretum’s unique charm and benefits local wildlife. \nReconnect with yourself and with nature.
