This species includes the tallest living trees in the world, reaching up to 115.9m (380.1 ft) in height. Ours is around 33m, but still towers above the surrounding woodland. The soft and fibrous bark can be up to a foot thick and is a bright red-brown colour when exposed.
They have been known to live for over 2000 years. Because of their seemingly timeless lifespans, coast redwoods were deemed the “everlasting redwood” at the turn of the century; in Latin, sempervirens means “ever green” or “everlasting”.
