Katsura tree

Cercidiphyllum japonicum

  • Accession number: 1000-100
  • Native to: Japan, China

One of our favourite trees, the katsura has subtle red flowers that appear with the leaves in the spring. The leaves then turn a variety of pinks and yellows in autumn and can have a distinctive caramel scent.

Katsura trees are dioecious, which means they have separate male and female trees; this tree is female.
