November volunteer day
We had an excellent day last Sunday, with a record number of volunteers out braving the weather and enjoying the autumn colours.
In the morning we split into groups, with some tackling the fallen oaks, chopping the mass of branches up for firewood, whilst others set about burning some of the large heaps of old bramble and rhododendron.
For lunch there was a rewarding and delicious veggie stew, cooked by Amy, after which we chatted and caught up with one and another, discussing the day’s tasks.
In the afternoon some of the new volunteers took a guided walk around the arboretum, with others returning to help clear the ever diminishing bramble, burn through some of the old piles and start to clear the drainage ditches. We also created a healthy stack of newly cut firewood, hopefully one of many to come!
At the end of the day we slowly packed up and enjoyed some hot mulled apple juice. Many thanks to all the volunteers who attended, each bringing their own energy, knowledge and enthusiasm.
