November volunteer day

We had a lovely volunteer day yesterday, even a little autumn sunshine to brighten the day.

We spent the morning in the middle of the arboretum, undercutting rhododendron and removing some larger roots near trees. It was also a good opportunity to have a bonfire, to burn some old piles of rhododendron (which takes a very long time to rot down). We were also lucky enough to see a newt!

After a delicious hot soup for lunch, we spent the afternoon mulching newly planted trees around the site. Helping to protect their roots against winter frosts and lessen the competition from surrounding plants.

A massive thank you to everyone that came along. Hopefully see you next time!
