Tales from Tortworth: A Poem for a Little Redwood

This week’s Tales from Tortworth comes in the form of a heartfelt poem, written by a mum who, alongside a group of parents, planted a tree with their children. Every Friday morning, these families gathered at the arboretum to explore, toast marshmallows, and share precious moments together. Their little redwood now stands as a lasting symbol of their time here—a tree rooted in love, friendship, and memories.
Our little Redwood
By Eve
We met at the dawn of our children’s lives.
We have supported and cared for each other through baby phases, childhood years, and global crisis.
We have nurtured and watched our babies grow into children with their own strong minds.
We plant you with love and memories, especially of this beautiful place, for you to hold and share with our future generations.
As your roots grow and you reach for the sky and sun, so shall our love and bonds with our children.
We will encourage them to watch and follow you. To reach for the stars and moon.
Through the constant change in seasons, may you continue to flourish.
As the years pass and we reach our dusk, may you give our children and their families shelter under your branches and feel the love and comfort that we share together here today.
If you’re looking for a special place to create memories with family or friends, the arboretum is available for group hire from Friday morning through to Mondays evening. Whether it’s for exploring, gathering around a fire, or simply enjoying time in nature, we’d love to welcome you.
