This ‘English Oak’ is estimated to be around 350 years old and predates the arboretum, being planted as part of a former deer park. It features a large hole in the side of it’s trunk, where you can peer in to see the hollowed out interior.

Veteran oaks provide important wildlife habitats and can play host to a remarkable variety of insects and plants within their crowns, and in the cavities of older specimens.
