December Conservation Day

Our December volunteer weekend was a great success. Together we planted 375 native trees alongside the new chestnut fence, which in time will form a hedge – providing a habitat for song birds and helping the trees shelter from the wind.

The tree planting was a part of I Dig Trees, an initiative organised by The Conservation Volunteers to plant 157,000 trees this winter – and we are lucky enough to have been donated 1,000 of these.

As well as planting, we also began sorting the bamboo and inspecting the site’s drainage, to see what improvements can be made.

Thank you to all the volunteers who came along on Saturday and Sunday and made it all possible. Our next Volunteer Sunday is January the 17th, when we will continue with planting trees and team up with Bee the Change to clear a new space for some bee hives!

Have a good festive season and see you in the new year!
