January volunteer day
Our first volunteer Sunday of the year and we were treated to a glorious sunny still day!
A big thank you to everyone that came along and joined us today. It was great to be back in the woods again and see the first snowdrops out in flower. We spent the morning adding to our dead hedges using fallen branches and generally tidying up an area of the site we hope to scythe later in the year.

After a cup of tea we then set about undercutting rhododendron in a new area of the site. In places the rhododendron had grown very think and entangled, the forest floor not having seen any sunlight for years, it will be interesting to see what flowers appear next year. The nearby trees, lime and fern-leaved beech, now also have a lot more room to breathe and stretch out their limbs. A nice day’s work!
