January volunteer day

Another lovely day in the woods yesterday!
We started the year in full strength, with a massive turnout of people. It was great to see so many regulars as well as lots of new faces too. Thank you all!
The day was very step orientated. Two groups refurbished the steps around the arena – replacing new wooden steps and also cleaning and resetting the stone ‘donkey steps’. We also got to have a bonfire, burning the rhododendron from a previous volunteer day, which was very welcome in the cold.
Whilst this was going on another group valiantly worked at removing bamboo roots, whist another carted oak logs from a fallen tree, also clearing up piles of brash to make space for new planting.
There was even time for to start on a new round wood stack, one of our best yet!
