July volunteer day

Another really enjoyable volunteer day today. As is often the case, it was remarkable how much we achieved!

We took on an area in the middle of the site that had received little attention in the last few years. There was lots of bracken to pull, bramble to clear and rhododendron to remove or undercut. By lunchtime the area was already completely transformed. With the undergrowth cleared it was exciting to get a glimpse of the topography of the land and the many planting opportunities ahead.

After a nice meal in the shade of the trees we headed out again. Further clearing was completed, with bramble roots methodically dug up. We then took on another area nearby, on the slope leading to a veteran chestnut tree, an area which has the opportunity to have shrubs planted. More bramble was cleared, more bracken pulled, and yet again the area was transformed. We’re very much looking forward to getting planting in the autumn!

A massive thank you to everyone that came along, see you next time!
