Tales from Tortworth: Rhea’s story

As we celebrate 10 years of Tortworth Forest Centre, we're sharing stories from the people who make this place special. This time, we hear from our wonderful Wellbeing Manager, Rhea.

My Tortworth journey so far…

I visited an event at Tortworth in 2019 and the magic of the arboretum stayed with me, it was on my radar as a place I wanted to return to. Fast forward five years and I was on the hunt for a new challenge when I stumbled across my dream role as Woodland Wellbeing Programme Manager at Tortworth.

I will have been delivering groups in the woods for 12 months in April and I have so much gratitude to be working with such a great team and inspiring participants in such a beautiful setting.  I am so passionate about the work we do, making nature accessible to people who are struggling with their mental health feels like helping people get in touch with something we have lost.

It is impossible to choose my favourite spot in the arboretum, one of my most peaceful moments was when a session had finished and I took a sneaky ten minutes to myself and went and sat at the bottom of one of the giant redwoods. I felt my stress melt away and the tension in my shoulders dissolve. Trees really do regulate our nervous system, I’m fortunate enough to witness and experience this on a weekly basis and that is why I love Torworth.
