February Volunteer Day

We had a lovely volunteer day in the woods yesterday, and such wonderful weather!

There was lots to do, we spent the morning cutting bramble and clearing fallen branches, whilst another team sawed and split oak limbs for firewood. Lunch was spent relaxing in the sun surrounded by snowdrops, all very picturesque.

In the afternoon we repotted our acer seedings, then went on a walk to visit the parent tree – a magnificent veteran Acer palmatum at the top of the site. Many thanks to all the donations of pots, we almost used them all! There was also the opportunity to plant the beginning of a new hedgerow at the far end of the site, which will hopefully in the future provide some much needed shelter to the specimen trees.

A massive thank you to everyone that came along and all the energy and enthusiasm!
