June volunteer day
Another lovely volunteer day yesterday, and hotter than expected! We enjoyed the shade of the trees and spent the day scything and removing rhody roots.
There’s something about removing the large rhody roots that is very pleasing, and it has turned into a favourite activity. This month we were clearing around a veteran chestnut and small leaved lime giving them more space to stretch out and hopefully layer their branches in the future.
Our scythes took on a big area of grass and bracken, with lots of regular sharpening needed for the grass. It is so pleasing to see an area that was once thick bramble now back under good maintenance and with new trees planted.
A massive thank you to everyone that came along, see you next time!
