Tales from Tortworth – Wellbeing participant Abby’s story
Join us as we celebrate our 10th year with heartfelt stories from those who’ve been part of our journey.

Tortworth Forest Centre is the most magical place.
As a participant, I came in anxious, quiet and fairly unsociable – but being given a space where we can all be ourselves, relax, and just take time out in the nature, has given me the confidence to actually be myself with the other participants and staff.
To be able to spend time walking around the arboretum in a safe space, looking at the trees and plants, studying them closely to see all the differences, all the life that lives in – and within this lifeline of beauty is a peace none of us would find anywhere else.
During these 3 hours every week, we get the chance to try new activities, that result in us being able to learn a new skill for life AND take home whatever it is we’ve created – from weaving willow crafts to creating tonics and butter with the ingredients we have available within the arboretum. We are treated to freshly toasted bread on a fire pit as we arrive with a whole variety of toppings, along with a freshly prepared lunchtime meal which caters to everyone’s needs and is healthy and nutritious! Unlimited tea, coffee or hot chocolate to wash it all down.
And at the end of our day at Tortworth FC we are honoured to receive and share the FairShare donations that are given to us as a group. The donations help massively by supplying extra needed food or just treats that wouldn’t usually be acquired.
All in all, I wouldn’t be who I am now, without the help and support from the staff, the participants and the peace of Tortworth Forest Centre.
