Thanks to all that came yesterday for another great day in the woods!
The morning was spent along the public footpath, near the ‘Donkey Bridge’. This area was cleared last year but had quickly regrown with brambles starting to poke through the long grass – perfect for our scythes! We now have five scythes – having received a brand new shiny (and very sharp!) one last week. Our other main task was across the stream, where there was an expanse of bracken which we tackled with slashers, taking care to look for signs of ground nesting birds.
We returned to the roundhouse for lunch, a hot dhal cooked over the fire, and we all re-fuelled for more of the same activities in the afternoon.
Having quickly finished the initial areas we had been focussing on, volunteers carried on along the public footpath, clearing under and around the specimen trees to bring them back into focus. It was impressive to see how much we had achieved by the end of the day!
Our next volunteer day dates are July 17th and August 14th (note not the usual 3rd Sunday).
See you in the woods again soon!
