Our 100th Volunteer Sunday!

Yesterday we celebrated our 100th volunteer Sunday!!

We marked the occasion with bench building, tree planting and of course a fair bit of bramble bashing for good measure. We also had the most fantastic cake..

We installed two new benches along the main pathways, using timber from fallen trees. We also worked on two areas with poor drainage – clearing bramble and digging new ditches to divert the water away from trees and pathways. We are also experimenting with planting willow to coppice for craft activities and hopefully soak up some of the excess ground water.

Our volunteer days first started in 2014 and have been essential in the restoration of the arboretum, from clearing the pathways and mapping the collection to improving access and planting the next generation of specimen trees. View our recent post with images of how the days have changed and some comparisons of what the site looked like in the early days compared to now.

Thank you to everyone who came along and to all the volunteers who have helped shape the arboretum into the wonderful site it is today. Here’s to many more days to come!

See you next time!
