December volunteer day

We had another lovely day in the woods today!

Quite a soggy start to the day but we struggled through and were rewarded by a dry afternoon. We focused on one area of the site, clearing around a veteran chestnut tree, making a dead-hedge, saving both a katsura tree and a weeping silver lime tree from brambles (the latter being literally pulled in all directions!). We also traced out a new pathway that has been discovered from an old map, something to finish off next year.

A big thank-you to everyone that came along today and to all those that have joined us and helped throughout the year, needless to say the arboretum is looking much better for it, and it has been great to welcome back some past volunteers and meet some new faces. We should all spend more days in the woods!

We’re very much looking forward to next year, when we will be able to grow the areas we’ve worked on and start new projects like mapping and cataloguing the trees.

See you next year!
