July volunteer day

A lovely sunny day at the arboretum today, thank you to everyone who came along and put in so much energy.
It was nice and cool in the woods, despite the heat. The morning was spent dismantling a recently fallen ask limb that had come down in close proximity to our wood store, quite fortuitous. The crown was chopped up and larger branches sawn for firewood.
After a delicious lunch of cheese and pickle sandwiches we set out into the middle of the arboretum. Our destination was a large patch of knotweed, which had grown very tall in the recent hot weather, we quickly cut it down into a large pile before taking a leisurely walk around the site, clearing pathways and enjoying the shade.
Our next volunteer day is on the 19th of August, hopefully see you then!
