January volunteer day

A lovely day in the woods yesterday. Thanks to everyone who joined us and put in so much energy!
We spent the day clearing rhododendron in an area of the woodland that has seen little management, and progress was quickly made. Now the trees (including a rare Burr Oak) can finally get light to their lower branches and dormant wild flowers can return to the woodland floor. Good work!
A smaller team also took the opportunity to map and measure all the trees in the area, which we will now be able to add to our spreadsheet and new map in the making.
Next month we hope to have hire of GPS equipment to begin taking coordinate positions for the larger trees and boundary – this will take place on the next volunteer day and also the days leading up to it – more info coming soon.
See you in the woods!
