March volunteer day

It was very wet and windy today in the arboretum but we managed to get lots done. Thanks to everyone who came along, a small but dedicated team!

We tackled a corner of the arboretum that was much in need of attention, buildingĀ a dead-hedge for habitat and shelter, using all the fallen trees and branches that had accumulated over the years.

There was also opportunity to tap a Silver Birch tree, which is best done in mid-March. This quickly started to fill a container, collecting a litre in a couple of hours. The tree will now be plugged and left to heal over.

Our next volunteer day is on the 16th of March, Easter Sunday, so hopefully see you then!
