September volunteer day
Another beautiful day in the woods today – thank you to everyone that joined us!
We spent the day working in an area at the top of the site, putting the finishing touches to a new pathway and steps. This is a new route that winds up the slope, linking up the ‘arena’ with the beautiful Japanese maples at the highest part of the arboretum.
As well as the pathway we were also busy removing more rhododendron from around the base of an oak tree, and planting a beautiful Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ as a focal point at the top of the steps.
In the afternoon, more tree planting followed, adding a few of our own saplings we grew from seed taken from our veteran Acer palmatum. There was also time for a bit of scything along our main pathways before we came to a gentle stop to admire the trees.
Next weekend we have our Autumn celebration on Saturday the 21st – there will be a choir, crafts, kids games and guided walks. Full details below – and free entry for volunteers!
See you next time!
