August Volunteer Day

We had a lovely day in the woods yesterday. It was hot! So we decided to spend the day working in the shade and took things at a gentle pace.
In the morning we cleared bramble and bracken, creating new areas for planting and a new bench. We also made sure to water some of our new saplings which were suffering with the heat and very much needing some water (hoping for lots of rain this week!).

After a nice cold pasta salad for lunch, we set back to work around the main roundhouse area. Volunteers dug holes to install a new bench, with views looking out across the dell. We also made great progress clearing around a cedar, and began scything along the path edges, with the bramble and grass going directly to the hungry goats.

We also took the opportunity to measure some of our largest specimen trees, for inclusion on the tree register, measuring both their height and girth.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along and braved the heat. See you in the woods again soon!
