November volunteer day

A lovely day in the woods today!

As last month, we split into two groups one doing mapping and the other something more physical. This month we concentrated on one of the new pathways, adding in a staked border to better define the path and felling a nearby sycamore and laurel for building materials. It all came together really quickly and now looks much improved.

The mapping also went really well, adding in some subtle improvements from our first experiments. Another 40 trees were surveyed and new temporary tags were added where needed. Our favourite tree of the day was a huge Hybrid Black Poplar ‘Robusta’, just over 4.5m in circumference.

Thanks to everyone that came along, and good to meet so many new faces. Next month there is talk of mince pies..

See you in the woods!
